Improvisation is spontaneous creation. In improvisational
comedy, improv performers create everything on-the-fly right in front
of your eyes: story, characters, settings, even songs and dances.
Improv is getting on-stage and performing without any preparation
or planning. We do not use any sketches. Therefore every single show
is different and unique adventures for both performers and audience.
An improv may consist of a series of improv games
such as Story, story, die; Sofa, bookcase and refrigerator; Ad agency
and so on, or it can be series of interconnected scenes and stories
inspired by a given starting point or theme.
Improv depends on audience's suggestions. Participants
can be also sometime pull into a game or show.
One example of a little improv game called
Reverse/Forward:
- Audience is asked to give an activity i.e. swimming
- Immediately 2 performers jump on the stage and start to play
something that has to do with swimming
- 3rd performer can call either Reverse or Forward. Once Reverse
is called, performers have to freeze and start to play backwards.
Their both movements and dialogs are reversed.
- When he calls Forward, they immediately start to play forward
from the point they stopped in backwards mode.
It looks like watching a movie on a VCR and sometimes pushing a
Reverse/Forward button on a remote control.
